Porcelain and composite are the most common types of veneers and treat a wide array of problems including:
Porcelain veneers are (as suggested by the name) made from porcelain and composite veneers are manufactured using a tooth-coloured resin.
This is the same material that is used when carrying out a tooth-bonding procedure.
Composite veneers are made of a composite resin material.
Direct composite veneers are applied straight onto your teeth and indirect composite veneers are custom made ‘indirectly’ usually in a dentist’s office or a lab.

The only drawback of composite veneers is that the resin material is less durable than porcelain, but at a lower price point, you can expect the quality to differ slightly on the materials being used.
With the right care and attention, veneers can last a lifetime, for example, porcelain veneers can last over 20 years.
However, in the case of composite veneers, it is important to note that the lifespan is highly dependent on the aftercare you give them.
You should treat them as you would your natural teeth, cleaning twice a day, flossing several times a week and organising regular check-ups.

The first step of the treatment entails the cleaning progress.
This is essential prior to the application of the veneers and ensures there is a clean surface to apply the dental cement and attach the veneer.
Next, we will remove a small layer of glossy enamel from your tooth/teeth, creating a rough surface and making sure that the veneer is more likely to stick.
At this stage, your teeth may need to be slightly reshaped if they are too large.
The next step will vary depending on whether you require indirect or direct veneers.
For direct veneers, we will scratch the enamel slightly and this increases the adhesiveness of the teeth.
The adhesive dental glue will be applied and then the thin veneer is played onto the surface of the tooth or teeth.
Finally, a special light is used to harden the composite resin and finalise the application.
If you are having indirect veneers, they will be made outside of your mouth and applied onto your teeth using a similar adhesive bonding agent to help the veneers stay in position.
Again a light will be used to harden the glue.
