Dental veneers: How exactly do veneers work?

04/04/2024

Dental veneers can be one of the most powerful tools in cosmetic dentistry, by having the capability of correcting chips, stains, and misaligned teeth, dental veneers can change your smile into one you’ve always dreamed of!

In this blog, we will guide you on how veneers work, how veneers are fitted, the process of getting veneers, if they hurt, and how they can work for you.

How do veneers work?

Dental Veneers are designed to enhance and improve the colour, size, and shape of your teeth. They can be used to transform individual teeth or an entire smile, and they are a quick and effective treatment method to leave you with a smile you can be proud of.

Veneers are carefully designed to fit over the front of the teeth, which means the bulk of the tooth structure remains intact. The amount of tooth structure that needs to be removed will be dependent on your teeth and mouth structure, or there is the option of non-prep or minimal prep veneers, where, like in the name, they require next to no tooth preparation.

How are veneers fitted?

At Bespoke Smile, we use a 3-step journey for our patients looking to get veneers fitted.

1. Trial smile

So that our patients are 100% happy with their new smile before we apply veneers, we will hand-design a bespoke trial smile created using composite resin for the teeth you wish to improve. We can also provide a gum lift and additional shaping using a pain-free laser. This is an extremely difficult procedure, and this is one of the many reasons that make Bespoke stand out among other dentists.

2. Bespoke choices and colour visit

This step allows you to personalise your results. We will consider the shapes, symmetry, angles, feel, bite, and texture of the trial smile and decide on the bespoke features that you would like to incorporate. We will also use this session to decide which colour suits you best!

3. Fitting visit

In the final stage, your trial smile will be removed, and the permanent porcelain veneers will be fitted onto the teeth. We will also carry out a comprehensive bite balancing to ensure the mouth is healthy and stable.

What issues can veneers fix?

Veneers are not only used to make your smile better, but they can also be used to fix dental issues. Veneers can help fix:

  • Gaps
  • Overcrowed smiles
  • Chipped teeth
  • Misaligned teeth
  • Discoloured teeth

Do veneers hurt?

A common question we are asked is, ‘Do veneers hurt?‘ And the easy answer is no. The process and fitting of veneers should be pain-free.
