What Are Lumineers? Your Expert Guide

19/02/2024

Whilst looking for options on creating that perfect smile, you may have seen or heard of Lumineers. Lumineers offer a modern and minimally invasive way to transform your teeth into those picture-perfect pearly whites!

In this blog, we will give you a breakdown of what a Lumineer is, what they look like, the benefits, how long they last, how much they can cost, and the fitting procedure!

What are Lumineers?

Lumineers is a brand of ultra-thin veneers that are created by a material known as porcelain, and are much smaller than traditional types of veneer.

Lumineers are custom-made veneers that are bonded to the front of your teeth. They are typically used to hide imperfections or for people wanting to transform their smile.

What do lumineers look like?

Lumineers are made to resemble a natural tooth in translucency, texture, and colour! By design, they layer over your existing teeth, making your smile look natural and non-bulky.

What are the benefits of Lumineers?

When it comes to the benefits, there are four positives that we like to showcase:

Minimally invasive

Lumineers are often placed without any drilling of your natural teeth, and the procedure doesn’t require you to be under anaesthetic!

Natural Aesthetics

Lumineers are custom-designed and fitted to your teeth, making them fit in seamlessly with your natural smile

Fast Procedure

The procedure of fitting Lumineers can be completed normally within two appointments, depending on what work needs to be done.

Pain Free

The majority of patients report minimal discomfort when fitting Lumineers. This is down to the non-invasive nature of this type of veneer.

How long do Lumineers last?

The lifespan of Lumineers can vary depending on various factors, including individual oral hygiene practices, lifestyle habits, and how well the dental work is maintained. On average, Lumineers are expected to last between 10 to 20 years or even longer in some cases. However, it’s essential to keep in mind that the actual durability can be influenced by oral hygiene, lifestyle habits, diet, and regular dental checkups.

How much do Lumineers cost?

In the UK, the price for any type of dental veneer can vary – this is down to either the location, the work you want, the dentist or dentistry, or the materials used.

Typically, you can at least expect a price around £1,200 per tooth, but the long-lasting and natural look of Lumineers makes them well worth the cost.

At Bespoke Smile, we do offer finance options to help you spread your payments for up to 24 months.

What is the Lumineer fitting procedure?

The fitting procedure for Lumineers can follow the same type of structure as other veneers.

You can expect the journey to look like:

  1. Consultation: A dentist will assess your teeth (to see if you need any prep done) and create a specialised treatment plan.
  2. Impressions: Impressions of your teeth are taken to ensure a perfect fit of your new smile.
  3. Fitting: After your lumineers are made, they are then fitted to your teeth with a strong dental bond.
  4. Final adjustments: When your new smile has been made and fitted, there will be some final adjustments to make sure everything is correct.

If you were wondering about what Lumineers could look like on you, we have a unique service at Bespoke Smile called Trial Smile.

H3: What is Trial Smile?

We want to make sure our patients are 100% happy with their new smile.

Before we apply Lumineers, we will design a bespoke trail of Lumineers for the teeth you wish to improve. We can also provide a gum lift and additional shaping using a pain-free laser. This is an extremely difficult procedure, so only the experts at Bespoke Smile can provide this additional benefit.

Trial Smile allows you to personalise your results, where we’ll consider the shapes, symmetry, angles, feel, bite, and texture of the Trial Smile and decide on the bespoke features that you would like to incorporate. We will also use this session to decide which colour suits you best! After everything has been approved by you, the Trial Smile will be removed, and the permanent veneers will be fitted onto your teeth.

Sounds like something you want to try?
