Veneers have become a popular cosmetic dentistry solution for those seeking a radiant smile. Renowned for their transformative effects, veneers have revolutionised the way people approach smile enhancement.
However, the process may seem mysterious and unfamiliar to many. Though there is a bit more detail that goes into it, veneers procedure is the act of having your teeth prepped, veneers shaped, and finally fitted onto your teeth, ready for you to show off that dream smile.
In this article, we will delve into the secrets behind this cosmetic dental procedure, exploring its purpose, benefits, and the step-by-step process involved.
Step-by-step of the veneer process
If you decide to get veneers, there are some steps you’ll go through as part of the Bespoke Smile process – this includes a unique process called Trial Smile.
Step 1: Initial consultation
First, you’ll need an assessment to discuss your concerns and what improvements you are hoping to achieve. The dentist should perform a full mouth and facial profile assessment, looking at the health of your teeth, gums, and bite.
This will allow the dentist to explain what they are able to improve about your smile, whilst considering what’s achievable aesthetically, and also taking your bite into consideration.
Step 2: Health assessment
Once you and the dentist have a clear image of the aesthetic goals you’d like to achieve, they would then need to confirm if any other health treatment is required before taking the next steps.
It is crucial when getting veneers that the foundation is strong, whether that is down to the health of your gums or your teeth, you would not want to begin veneer treatment if the foundation is not solid! Your dentist may recommend periodontal treatment to improve the quality of your gums before the veneers are placed.
Step 3: Sculpting your temporary veneers
Once you have a healthy, stable foundation, your dentist will be able to begin the Smile Sculpting element of the process, your Trial Smile.
This involves creating temporary veneers out of resin, which allows you to test the look and feel of your veneers before committing to them 100%. You can then provide feedback on your thoughts to us after a week or so of wearing them, and adjustments can be made if necessary.
This stage is crucial as it allows you to get used to your veneers and make sure you are 100% happy with them before committing to the final, permanent veneers.
Step 4: The final fitting
Once you’ve lived with your temporary veneers, you’ll be invited back in so we can assess how you feel about your temporary Trial Smile, make any changes you’d like made, and then begin the process of hand sculpting your final, permanent veneers.
We’re able to do this in just one appointment, and patients will typically return regularly to check up on their smile and have routine maintenance visits.
Different types of veneer procedures
When done properly, veneer procedures can be very similar to each other, with each practise having its own specialisms and techniques. But when going abroad to places like Turkey, the process of veneers can change dramatically, and not for the better.
In some places, most notably Turkey, there is a bad reputation to the word and work of veneers. You may have heard of bad Turkey Teeth, or Turkey teeth pegs; this is because of the huge social trend of veneers and having practises, which are not under the UK’s strict health and safety requirements, to provide cheap alternatives to veneers that, in short, ruin your teeth and can cause lifelong, irreversible issues.
Because of this, we suggest not taking the risk of going abroad for dental procedures, but if you do, make sure the practise you are using is legitimate, and the dentist themself are qualified.
How long does the veneer procedure take?
Depending on what type of veneers you want, the veneer procedure can either be done relatively quickly, like composite veneers, taking 1 session to get fitted, or multiple sessions, depending on the colour, fit, and style, etc.
The time for veneer procedures does depend on the work that needs to be done. If you want a few veneers placed on your current teeth, where your oral health is good, and the change is minor, this can be done in 1 session!
But if you are looking to improve what you might consider imperfections, like gaps in teeth, tetracycline-stained teeth, or wonky teeth, this can make the veneer procedure take a bit longer and take a few sessions.
This is mainly because of the prep of your teeth and the fitting of your new veneers, where sometimes small tooth shaving is needed to make your veneers fit properly, giving you the perfect tooth aesthetic!
