We meet a lot of patients who are concerned that veneers will ruin and damage their teeth; this is not correct.
But going to Turkey without proper research and understanding of veneers can lead to bad turkey teeth that can leave your original teeth damaged, which can be irreversible. It’s been reported that clinics in Turkey are placing dental crowns on healthy teeth; not only is this a bad practice, but it’s also very dangerous.
We often meet patients who thought they were getting thin veneers, only to return with bulky zirconium crowns, leading to the bad Turkey teeth look, which no reputable dentist in the UK can easily correct.
Is it worth the risk?
With the rise of social media influencers flaunting their “perfect” smiles, it’s easy to be tempted by cheaper cosmetic dental treatments abroad, especially the now-infamous Turkey veneers trend.
But the question remains, is it worth the risk?
Procedures marketed as quick-fix smile makeovers can be dangerously misleading. Many patients think they are getting minimally invasive veneers when, in reality, they are having healthy teeth shaved down for large zirconium crowns, which is now commonly referred to as Turkey teeth.
These irreversible procedures can cause long-term harm and are incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to fix.
What Damage Can It Cause?
The most common problems we see in patients returning from overseas clinics include:
- Severe nerve damage
- Poorly fitted crowns causing infection or decay
- Difficulty eating due to bite misalignment
- Overfilled teeth with limited options for future treatment
We regularly see patients who come to us for correctional work after experiencing serious dental issues from procedures both abroad and here in the UK.
Cost of Corrections
What initially seems like a cost-saving option can become extremely expensive. Corrective procedures for bad veneers can cost thousands, often far more than doing it right the first time.
In many cases, damaged teeth require root canal treatment, replacement crowns, or even dental implants, significantly increasing the long-term cost.
Pain and Discomfort
The physical pain involved can be just as damaging as the financial cost. Over-preparation of teeth can lead to sensitivity, ongoing pain, and difficulty chewing.
In extreme cases, patients are left with chronic discomfort and irreversible oral damage.
Are veneers in Turkey safe?
There is no question that Turkey has some very reputable clinics that are more than qualified to conduct veneer procedures, but unlike the UK, they do have clinics opening that do not follow the strict rules of dentistry and patient care. This can lead to the common trend of bad Turkey teeth, where the number of turkey veneers going wrong has grown, and increased the cases that walk through our door wanting repair work, or asking for their veneers (or crowns) to be reversed.
So, is it safe?
This comes down to you. If you choose to go to Turkey for veneer procedures, make sure to do your research on the clinic, read the genuine reviews, and view examples of their work to reduce the risk of your Turkey veneers going wrong!
