When people start researching smile transformations, they often expect a clear answer.
“Do I need veneers?”
“Should I straighten my teeth?”
“What’s the best treatment?”
But there is rarely just one correct solution. In fact, most patients have several clinically sound ways to address the same concern. The difference isn’t dentistry, it’s making a personal decision.
That’s why at Bespoke Smile, we don’t begin with treatments. We begin with outcomes.
One Smile, Many Possible Paths
Two patients can sit in the same chair with similar teeth and leave with completely different treatment plans. And both can be right.
Why? Because smile transformation planning isn’t just about teeth. It’s about understanding:
- How noticeable you want the change to be
- How long you want the result to last
- How much maintenance feels reasonable to you
- Whether you prefer gradual improvement or a shorter journey
- How predictable you want the outcome to feel before committing
Our role as dentists isn’t to push a single option, but to lay out the possibilities clearly, explain the trade-offs honestly, and help you choose a path that feels aligned with you, not pressured.
How We Plan at Bespoke Smile: Start With the End Goal, Then Work Backwards
Every Bespoke Smile transformation starts with listening to our patients. We ask what you like and what you’ve never liked about your smile, we explore what you want to change and what you want to protect, and we define what success actually looks like to you.
Only then do we visualise the final smile goal. From there, we work backwards to explore the different treatment routes that could achieve it, from the most comprehensive to the most conservative. This ensures dentistry is purpose-driven, not treatment-led.
A Real Example: One Patient, Three “Right” Answers

Let’s look at a common real-world scenario.
The Patient
A 42-year-old woman comes in feeling that her smile is aging her and she wants to look refreshed.
Her concerns include:
- Crowded teeth
- Old composite bonding that has stained and chipped
- An old crown with visible metal at the gum margin
- Teeth that feel uneven and dull
Her goal is clear and one we hear often: she wants a more youthful, uniform smile, noticeable in a good way, but still subtle, natural, and very much her.
Clinically, there are several ways to achieve this.
Option 1: Smile Sculpting + Trial Smile + Porcelain Veneers
Our Trial Smile and porcelain veneer option is ideal for patients actively researching premium, long-term smile transformations and wanting maximum confidence before committing.
The Process
- Whitening the teeth for two weeks
- Removing the old crown and existing composite bonding
- Using Bespoke Smile’s Smile Sculpting approach to hand-design the new smile directly onto the teeth in a temporary material, creating a handmade Trial Smile, allowing the patient to live with their proposed smile before anything permanent is made
- Our master ceramist will then copy the handmade trial smile into porcelain veneers by hand-layering porcelain.
Together with the patient, we refine tooth length and proportions, alignment, brightness, and how the smile sits within the face and lips.
Timeline: ~4 weeks
Longevity: 15+ years
Best for: Patients wanting the most refined, predictable, long-lasting result
Option 2: Orthodontics + Whitening + Mixed Restorations
This option prioritises alignment correction and tooth preservation over speed. Ceramic crowns can be beautifully translucent and lifelike. Composite bonding, while very aesthetic, is a resin material, meaning subtle differences between materials may be noticeable over time.
The Process
- Straightening the teeth with aligners or a fixed brace (6–9 months)
- Whitening for two weeks
- Removing the old crown and placing composite bonding on four teeth to improve proportions
- Fitting a new ceramic crown two weeks later
- Wearing retainers long-term to maintain alignment
Timeline: 6-9 months
Longevity: Composite bonding: 5–7 years
Best for: Patients comfortable with a longer timeline, planned improvements and want to treat less teeth
Option 3: Whitening + Composite Refresh
This approach accepts the current tooth positions while refreshing colour and uniformity.
The Process
- Whitening for two weeks
- Replacing old composite bonding in a brighter shade
- Replacing the old crown with a new ceramic crown
Timeline: 3 weeks
Longevity: Composite bonding: 5–7 years
Best for: Patients seeking a lighter, cleaner smile with minimal treatment.
So… Which Option Is Best?
There isn’t one ‘best’ option for everyone. The right smile transformation is the one that:
- Matches your personal goals
- Fits your lifestyle and values
- Aligns with your comfort level
- Feels calm, considered, and confident
By working backwards from the desired outcome, we ensure the dentistry serves you. Learn about The Bespoke Smile Method:
