Composite Laminate Veneers: Preparation to cementation

Pros: Low-cost | Application in a single appointment | easily reversible | Little tooth preparation

Cons: Possible staining/chipping | Not as durable

The main and most widely known function of veneers is to improve the appearance of your teeth shape and colour.

Our veneer patients often come to our practice concerned about the functionality and appearance of the smile.

Whether you simply want to repair a chipped tooth that has been annoying you each time you look in the mirror, or you are looking for a full smile makeover –  dental laminates or laminated veneers are an enticing option, made even more so by the low cost.

All types of veneers (whether traditional porcelain, Lumineers, Emax or Laminates) are used to adjust the colour, shape, positioning and the size of one or more of your teeth if you have discoloured, worn, gappy, chipped or crooked teeth.

Laminate veneers consist of wafer-thin shells made out of dental ceramic that is carefully bonded onto the outer sides of the teeth, fixing any of the above listed dental issues and smile hang-ups.

What is the difference between laminate and normal veneers?

Dental laminates and dental veneers are both used to improve the appearance and functioning of your smile.

Although some people will use the terms dental laminates and dental veneers interchangeably, the difference to remember is that laminates are noticeably thinner and less enamel needs to be removed from the teeth during their treatment stage.

In the long run, this is usually better for your teeth because it is less likely that any of the dental tissue will be damaged.

Composite vs Porcelain

Dental veneers procedure at BespokeDental veneers are usually manufactured using two different materials; composite and porcelain.

Most people prefer porcelain because it is less prone to staining, however composite veneers require less preparation on the natural teeth and sometimes you are able to have them fitted in just one day.

Porcelain veneers are more expensive and more enamel needs to be removed to reshape the tooth prior to laying the veneer.

What’s special about laminate veneers?

Laminates share the same function and benefits as dental veneers, but the enamel does not have to be removed, which in the long term can be better for your overall dental health.

Although they are better for the teeth, if they are not properly fitted then they can sometimes appear bulky onto of the tooth, since the tooth has not been filed down.

Additionally, they are usually more expensive than their porcelain counterpart.

Why does the difference matter?

Although the difference between the two treatments is only subtle, it can be useful to understand why one option may be more suitable for you than another.

For example, if your teeth issues are more extreme (e.g. you have squint teeth with large gaps) you will be more suited to normal veneers since they are studier and more stable than dental laminates.

If your main issue is discolouration or small chips, then laminates can easily do the job.

They are a lightweight option and do not require a large amount of enamel removal prior to the fitting stage.

Previous patient feedback:

So happy with my new smile:

“From the initial warm welcome I received at Bespoke Smile, I felt extremely relaxed and at ease with my new dentist. Initially, I had no idea about what I wanted to be done, I just wanted to get an opinion and talk through some options. I sat down with Lydia, after having a look at my teeth and she drew up some fantastic plans with prices and different options. Her honesty with everything was something I really admired. She knew I wanted to just enhance my natural teeth and made sure we kept to this every step of the way. My entire experience so far with Lydia, Amy, Naomi and the team has been absolutely fantastic and I can highly recommend the clinic to anyone. I am so so so so happy with the results I can’t explain! Lydia’s work is seamless and perfect.”
