What are implants?

They are long-term, permanent solutions to replace individual or multiple missing teeth.

A skilled restorative dentist will implant them directly into your jawbone, so a sufficient and healthy amount of jaw bone will be required.

However, it’s often the case that older patients we treat who have had multiple missing teeth for a while and have been wearing loose and uncomfortable dentures often lose their bone structure.

This can happen as a consequence of missing teeth and will require a bone graft or regeneration surgery to ensure your implant will be a stable success.

130,000 implants are placed every year in the UK – Dentistry.co.uk

Alternative treatments in restorative dentistry to replace missing teeth include full or partial dentures and bridges, which use false teeth that fix on to either side of existing, regular teeth.

However, we have seen implants become the favoured treatment as alternative treatments like bridges may involve cutting of the natural tooth to fit them.

How do they work?

Either supporting crowns or dentures, an implant is implanted into the jawbone, which acts as a strong artificial tooth root.

Once it has been implanted the surrounding bone will then fuse to it, keeping the implant firmly in position.

After the period of osseointegration (where the implant heals over and fuses over a few months), a false crown (tooth or denture will then be fitted to the abutment, which will be designed to blend flawlessly with existing teeth.

solve gaps in your mouthAlthough we have only been operating in Marlow for a year, we are humbled by the reputation we have built and the number of repeat, loyal clients we have gained.

Consultations are necessary for implant placements because not every patient is a viable candidate. Having them placed will entirely depend on your unique situation as well as the condition of your teeth and gums.

Unsuitable candidates are:

  • Smokers
  • Diabetics
  • Suffering from gum or periodontal disease

Each case is different so consulting with an expert implantologists will be important.

Pain-free procedures

Your dental implant will usually be fitted over two separate appointments unless opting for teeth in a day.

The first appointment will see the implant being placed into your jaw and then a few months later, the second appointment will have the new tooth attached.

The surgery will be conducted at our dental surgery under local anaesthesia. Patients report mild discomfort with some slight soreness around the gum area, which will fade after a few days.

Nervous patients can be offered sedatives to help them relax and proceed with treatment.

Advantages

One of the main reasons why so many patients receive implant treatment is because they feel self-conscious about their smile and wish to replace faulty dentures.

Implants help patients get their confidence back as well as helping any speech issues or chewing difficulties.

More benefits include:

  • Completely stable
  • Looks exactly like a natural tooth
  • More comfortable
  • Custom-made to fit your mouth
  • Can last just as long as natural teeth

Cost of implants

This can depend on the material you choose and if any additional treatments are required to make the implantation a success.

  • Implant Fixture from £1500
  • Implant Crown or bridge from £1500
