Why do so many patients get dental implants?

award-winning dentists and dental practiceImplant treatments include single implants, multiple implants and All-on-Four/All-on-Six (teeth in a day).

Dental implants are a dedicated procedure to replace broken, lost or eroded teeth and are often a preferred alternative to other treatments like bridgework or dentures.

Dental implants can hugely change your life, reinstate healthy oral functions and enhance aesthetics.

Pros include:

  • Permanent and long-lasting
  • Lifespan of 20 years or more
  • Stable, reliable and secure
  • Mimics natural teeth
  • Restores speech and ease of chewing
  • A more convenient alternative to dentures
  • Promotes great oral health

There are a few negative consequences of not replacing missing teeth; your oral structure and underlying foundation will inevitably suffer because of ignored tooth loss.

Problems like continued tooth loss can occur as well as a decreased amount of bone in the jaw.

On top of this, more wear and tear of remaining teeth will be much more likely as they take on more weight and pressure.

The dental implant surgery procedure

Different from teeth in a day, the regular implant process is not a success overnight.

Treatment occurs over a few months, which is necessary to enable the implant to heal and fuse with the jaw bone.

The procedure will include three stages that every patient will be required to undertake.

This involves:

  • Further or pre-surgical treatments
  • The implant placement
  • The recovery process

Advice for worried patients

Sedation is only needed for patients who are very sensitive or anxious.

The overall implant procedure is carried out in our implant clinic in Marlow under local anaesthetic.

Many patients express it to be a painless procedure with only some mild discomfort around the gums afterwards.

Surgery steps:

  1. Placing the implant
  2. Attaching the abutment
  3. Fitting the crown

Sustaining and caring for your implant

During your implant rehabilitation process, you may experience slight swelling or bruising.

This is completely normal and can be lessened by over the counter medications such as Ibruprofen.

The discomfort should not last longer than a few days and patients are approved to return to work the day after.

Taking care of your implant for life will demand no specialised care.

All you will need to do to assure its durability is to clean it as you would your regular teeth through routined brushing, flossing and hygiene check-ups.
